Once upon a time, there was a dream within Pinebrook about building a community pool. The dream was shared by many who believed this would make a wonderful Park City community even more wonderful!
Those who governed the community, as part of the Pinebrook Master Association Board of Directors, were in favor of the idea, but recognized that not everyone in Pinebrook would think it a worthwhile initiative and that many wouldn’t want to pay to build it. The PMA Board had an ingenious idea. What if the PMA were to provide some land for the initiative and in return they would let those would like a community pool fund it, on a membership basis, but with a clubhouse being built as part of the project for the benefit of the entire community. The clubhouse, which would serve as a meeting place for the community, would not cost anything at all for Pinebrook residents that didn't want to become pool members. Architectural plans were drafted and the first marketing brochure was created.
But this organized effort by Pinebrook’s first pool committee started immediately prior to the financial crisis of 2008. That first attempt to build the pool failed. The failure was attributed to the financial crisis and the impact it had on home values and the finances of those living within Pinebrook.
In 2015 and 2016, after the financial world had returned to a more normal state, a second pool committee was formed within Pinebrook and tried once again to generate enough interest in pool memberships to fund the project. That second committee leveraged the work that had been done by the first pool committee. But the second pool committee was unable to find enough members and eventually it discontinued its efforts.
In mid-2020, another group within Pinebrook was highly confident that the time was right for the pool project to succeed. They were aware of the past failed efforts, but they were enthusiastic given that more people than ever were living in Pinebrook, that Pinebrook had become more affluent, and that there were lots of new families with young children moving into the community. They were aware that building costs had increased significantly but they were confident they could raise the needed funds. This group was well organized and spent a year on its efforts. They too leveraged the prior committees' work and they had a lot of energy. They were initially unsuccessful when they included the original plan for a large community clubhouse, but based on community feedback they adjusted the project plan several times to try to accommodate the broadest set of possible members. More members joined.
Pinebrook presently has over 1,500 residences, and a substantial majority serve as first residences. The final vision for the pool project only required 170 “members”. Eventually the third pool committee found 105 households to commit to become members. But that feel far short of the total number required to start building. In October 2021, the third pool committee abandoned its efforts to build the pool.
The third pool committee said at its first community meeting that it would either be “third time is a charm” or “three strikes you’re out”. Sadly, it seems that the dream for a pool for Pinebrook, is now a story for the Pinebrook history books. The third pool committee’s final vision for the Pinebrook pool can be found within this website. Note that it didn't include the clubhouse above.
We would like to say a special thank you to the members of all three pool committees. Each committee tirelessly devoted many hundreds of hours to try to turn what was a dream for many in Pinebrook into a reality for the entire Pinebrook community!
